1480-DR Functionality & Notes

  • 1480 firmware version T60 (June 2020) added Dashcam power control by way of a new, user-selectable function. All "DR" editions of the 1480 have this newest firmware. Specifically, when the 1480's "GWA output" function is changed from Continuous to Pulsed (see Feature No.11 on page 11 in 1480 Owner's Guide), an attached Dashcam can then be powered-on for 120 seconds to record video each time there is an alarm blast trigger (e.g., when door opened while Armed, hard shock to vehicle, ignition ON, etc.). The Dashcam will also be powered-on for 45 seconds each time warning chirps are triggered (e.g., light shock to the body).

The number of recording sessions is limited only by SBS — an important feature that prevents excessive noise pollution by limiting each trigger type to a max of 10 times. (Warning, Alarm, Door-open, and Ignition triggers each have their own independent SBS counters.)  DashCam power control requires the KDR-1 interface and the SB-33 sensor splitter (if adding a second sensor), both of which are included in the 1480-DR kits. (The SB-33 is a modified version of our SB-03 that is made for use with 1480-DR products.)

  • Flashing LEDs like LUMINATOR normally connect their Ground wire to the (-) GWA output of the 1480. But when using a Dashcam, any LED device you attach to the GWA output will only light while the Dashcam is powered on (45 or 120 seconds per recording session).

  • Attached sensors (e.g., shock, radar, etc.) are powered via GWA while driving, but they will not trigger the alarm.

  • A Dashcam is NOT included in the 1480-DR packs. We do NOT manufacture or sell Dashcams. We simply enhanced some of our car security products to be compatible with Dash cams. Even so, we recommend you read our article on Dashcam Caveats if you haven't purchased a Dashcam already.
